Muay Thai (also referred to as Thai Boxing) is the national sport of Thailand. It is also known as “the art of eight limbs” because it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins.
Although it originated in South East Asia, Muay Thai has gained great popularity throughout the world and is widely regarded as one of the most effective and complete stand up martial arts for full contact fighting. Muay Thai fighters use dynamic combinations of punches, kicks, knee strikes and elbow strikes as well as clinching (grappling) techniques.
Muay Thai is a highly respected martial art, renowned for its effectiveness in combat. Our Muay Thai class is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their stand up fighting skills, whether for self-defence or competition. It is also recognised as an effective striking base for MMA competition and can be used to compliment any MMA training, or to put together with BJJ to make a formidable arsenal of attacks.
The class is suitable for those who want to improve their fitness, get stronger and/or lose weight. Classes are open to everyone regardless of age, fitness level or ability.
Entry level students at Fightworx Academy will learn the basic techniques of Muay Thai including proper stance and footwork, how to punch effectively, how to kick, knee & elbow properly, simple combinations and also how to hold pads properly so you can work effectively with a training partner. The basic techniques are the foundation upon which you can build your ability and will always be used you progress, no matter what your level of experience.
